ROLE-PLAY: A unique teaching method

Imagine you had the chance to rehearse for adult life a few times before you entered it. Give the students of your school that opportunity! It’s time to put your primary school children in your shoes – through the power of role-play!

WIGU uses an enormous variety of props and costumes to transform a classroom into the real adult world, making learning as realistic as it gets and fantastically exciting for children. Just to name a few, the WIGU program involves students role-playing a dinner party to learn about social etiquette, a day at the beach to learn essential safety and emergency procedures or even a day in the lives of mum and dad – teaching essential everyday skills.

“Let’s play castle! I’ll be the princess and you be the knight!”
“Mummy, can I help you wash the dishes?”
“When I grow up I want to be a fireman!”

Sound familiar? What child doesn’t enjoy playing restaurants, store or doctor? But role play is more than fun… it encourages children to – explore imagination, build social skills, problem solve, understand someone else’s perspective, learn essential life lessons from adults, discover leadership skills, safely explore the world beyond and acquire confidence and a sense of self.

The power of role-play is incredible. It is such a successful method of learning because children are naturally drawn to the magical art of imitation and make belief. The powerful technique of role-play takes the fact that kids love to imitate adults and transforms it into a unique teaching method – allowing kids to follow and imitate examples of good behaviour and responsible habits.

Children learn BEST when they see purpose in their learning and when they enjoy the overall learning experience. There is absolutely no doubt that role-play is fun, interesting and easy to relate to. And that is why through this unique teaching method, primary school children will gain confidence to face the outside world in no time!
